Types of Therapy

As an integrative counsellor, I tailor therapy to suit your individual needs. There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to therapy, so I draw from different therapeutic methods to create a personalised experience that works best for you.

The approaches I use include:

Brief Therapy

A short-term, goal-focused therapy designed for those who already have an idea of potential solutions but need support in applying them. This can be particularly helpful for young people experiencing school-related challenges, behavioural concerns, or relationship difficulties.

Cognitive Behavioural Techniques (CBT)

CBT techniques help you recognise and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours that may be affecting your daily life. This approach is widely used for managing anxiety, depression, and other emotional difficulties.

Creative Therapy

Creative therapy incorporates activities such as drawing, painting, using play-dough or clay, and making sensory tools (e.g., stress balls). While often associated with children, this approach can be highly beneficial for adults, helping to express and process emotions in a non-verbal way.

Ecotherapy

Bringing therapy into nature, ecotherapy includes walk-and-talk sessions in a park or outdoor space, as well as incorporating natural elements into the counselling process. This approach can be grounding, calming, and particularly beneficial for those who feel restricted in a traditional therapy setting.

Person-Centred Therapy

A client-led approach that puts you in control of what you explore in therapy. Sessions are shaped around your needs, giving you space to talk openly and at your own pace.

Play Therapy

Designed primarily for younger children, play therapy allows them to express emotions through play rather than verbal communication. Using toys, games, and creative materials, this non-directive approach ensures children feel safe and comfortable.

Pre-Trial Therapy

For individuals who are involved in legal proceedings, pre-trial therapy follows Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) guidelines and focuses solely on supporting your emotional wellbeing in the present moment—without discussing case details.

Systemic Therapy

This approach looks at how your family dynamics, upbringing, and relationships influence your thoughts and behaviours. It can be used for both individuals and families, helping to explore patterns and improve communication.
