FAQ

Counselling

What can I expect from counselling?

Counselling provides a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Sessions are tailored to your needs, whether you’re looking for short-term support or long-term therapy.

How long does each session last?

Sessions typically last up to 50 minutes, but this can be adjusted depending on the type of support you require.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies for each person. Some people find short-term therapy (6-12 sessions) helpful, while others benefit from ongoing support. We can discuss this during your initial consultation.

What types of therapy do you offer?

I offer a range of therapy options, including:

  • Face-to-Face Therapy (Short-term & long-term)
  • Online Therapy
  • Telephone Therapy
  • Outdoor Walk & Talk Therapy
  • Time-Limited Therapy

What issues can I bring to counselling?

You can bring anything that’s on your mind. Common concerns include anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, stress, self-esteem, grief, and life transitions. If you’re unsure whether counselling is right for you, we can discuss this in your free 20-minute consultation.

What if I don’t feel comfortable after a few sessions?

Therapy should feel like a safe and supportive space. If, for any reason, you don’t feel comfortable, we can discuss adjusting the approach or explore alternative options. There’s no obligation to continue if you don’t feel it’s the right fit.

Confidentiality

Is everything I say in therapy confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a key part of therapy. What you share in sessions will remain private, with a few exceptions (outlined below).

Are there any limits to confidentiality?

Confidentiality may need to be broken if:

  • There is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others.
  • There are legal or safeguarding obligations (e.g., child protection, terrorism, or court orders).
  • I am required to discuss cases anonymously in professional supervision (a standard ethical practice to ensure best care).

If confidentiality ever needs to be broken, I will always aim to discuss this with you first where possible.

Will my sessions be recorded?

No, sessions are not recorded. Notes may be taken, but these are kept securely and only for professional reference.

Do you share information with my GP or employer?

No, not unless you request and provide written consent for me to do so.

Can I contact you outside of sessions?

You can contact me by phone, email, or website form. As I may be in sessions, please leave a message or send a text/email, and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I request that contact is limited to arranging and scheduling appointments or providing updates where necessary.
